Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Vijayawada (previously known as Shramik
Vidyapeeth) is an institute of People’s Education. This represents
as an institutional frame-work for offering non-formal, adult and
continuing education, vocational and skill development training to
the disadvantaged groups. On completion of Total Literacy
Campaign, there is a need to improve and upgrade the knowledge and
skills of neo-literates for their economic well being and quality of
life improvement. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan strives to improve the
“Living Standards” of neo-literates and other target groups
and in turn supporting their “Livelihood”.
The ongoing literacy campaigns and the Continuing Education
programmes are expected to receive the necessary input support from
the Jan Shikshan Sansthans.
The scheme of Jan Shikshan Sansthans or Institute of People’s
Education is a polyvalent or multi-faceted adult education programme
aimed at improving the vocational skills and quality of life of its
beneficiaries. The objective of the scheme is educational,
vocational and occupational development of the target groups. The
scheme is being implemented through NGOs/Registered societies by
Ministry of Human Resource Development as one of the strategies of
adult education in the context of Continuing Education wherein
vocational component is an important part.
Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Vijayawada was set up in 1985 by Ministry of
Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.
